Change password expiry prompt

By default in Windows 10, Windows will start notifying you that your password is about to expire (if the password expiration option is enabled) and that you must change it 5 days before the password expires. In this guide, I will show you how to change this setting.

It is good that Windows prompts you to change your password because it is expiring, but it can get quite annoying when you are nagged to change your password every time you sign in to Windows. We only need one friendly reminder, thank you very much! Thankfully, a simple Group Policy trick will allow you to decide when Windows notifies you to change your password.

1. Press Windows + R to open the Run box.
2. Type

   secpol.msc

   to open the local security policy.
3. Find Local Policies with the mouse and double click to expand. Keyboard and/or screen reader users, arrow down until you find Local policies and press the right arrow key to expand.
4. Click Security Options. Keyboard and/or screen reader users, arrow down until you find Security Options and press the right arrow to expand.
5. Double-click

   . Keyboard and/or screen reader users: Once Security Options is expanded, press tab, press I and arrow down 9 times to find

6. Double-click or press enter.
7. Type a number in days. For example, if you want Windows to start prompting you to change your password 2 days before the password dies, type the number 2.
8. Finally, press Alt + A to apply and press Enter.
